Hatteras Style Clam Chowder

You have heard of New England Clam Chowder, Manhattan clam chowder and now it is time to try Hatteras Clam Chowder. This classic chowder is easy to prepare with fresh potatoes, celery, onions, carrots and thyme all cooked in clam juice. Then just add the chopped clams for this lighter version of a traditional favorite.

Instructions

In a large pot over medium heat, cook onion, celery and carrots in oil until they begin to soften. Stir in potatoes, clams, clam juice, thyme, pepper and bacon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.

Ingredients

  • 51 oz.         Sea Watch Chopped Clams*, with juice
  • 46 oz.        Sea Watch Clam Juice
  • 2 Tbsp.      Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Med.       Onions, chopped
  • 8                 Celery Stalks, sliced
  • 6                 Carrots Sticks, sliced
  • 7 Cups       White potatoes, peeled & cubed
  • 1½ Tsp.     Thyme, dried
  • ¾ Tsp.        Black Pepper
  • 13 slices    Bacon, crisp cooked, crumbled

*Use your favorite Chopped Sea or Chopped Ocean Clams.
